Chapter Eight
In this chapter of The Mind’s Eye, by Kevin Clark, I learned about all of the the different forms in poetry, such as Villanelle, Sestina, Sonnet, Rhyming, Syllabics, Free Verse, Metrics, and Blank Verse. This was the hardest chapter for me. I was definitely not used to and not comfortable with having to follow a very structural form while I was writing, like having to write lines that could only contain a certain amount of syllables. Writing these poems took me the most amount of time that I have ever spent writing poems, and I really came to respect and appreciate those who write these kinds of poems. It takes a lot of thought and patience with yourself and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to write these poems. I was tasked with writing six prompt of the fourteen given me and here are my three favorites that I wanted to work on.
Final Draft
All I did here was change the end of the poem where I called my hands disgusting in the last stanza to saying that they were normal, because I had built them up throughout the entire poem only to tear them down in the end. That would’ve just been silly. That was the only change I made to this poem.

First DraftFor this poem I was tasked with writing a villanelle. Something my teacher told me I could do before I wrote these was that I could use a poem I had already written but that I didn’t necessarily like the structure of. Earlier in the semester I wrote a poem about my hands because they are weird and I decided to use that idea to write this poem.

This is my name in my handwriting. Though it may not be perfect it is mine from my hands that have learned how to write it like that... and I love it.

Final DraftI spelled klutz wrong so I had to fix that and I took out everything from the last two stanzas except for the last lines of each and I combined them into one short stanza. Those two lines really tied the entire poem together leaving, what I hope was an interesting thought for my reader.

First Draft
For this poem I had to write a sestina but I had for determine the six end words before I wrote the poem. So I grabbed the nearest book and flipped to random pages and pointed to six random words and wrote them down. The words were: here, down, alone, walking, judges, way. I was really happy about the words that I had pointed to because they were easy to work with. I wrote about how people judge others about everything they do but also how everyone judges themselves. It sounds a little confusing if I explain it, it’ll make sense if you read it though :).

Here I actually didn’t make any changes, I liked the way I had written it and so I kept it. It’s as simple as that. (Plus my teacher made no edits and that’s really why I didn’t change anything :) ).

First Draft
For this poem the prompt was to write a sestina and I decided to write about a friend of mine whom I used to call my best friend. I have a very big heart and she had it all in her hand because I have it to her at a young age. She held on to it and dragged me around pulling me in and making me feel loved and then pushing me away when she got bored and she move on to another friend still grasping tightly to my heart. It took my until this year, my senior year of high school, to realize that I could live without her and so I moved on. But I can’t hide the fact that I miss her. Because I do, I miss most things about her and it makes me sad. So this poem is for her.
