Chapter Nine
In this chapter of The Mind’s Eye by Kevin Clark, I learned how to use different forms of writing poetry such as aeration, visual caesurae, and prose poetry. I have always been one to stick to the basics when writing my poems so I never tried anything different until for the writing prompts from this chapter I had to. I had to write three of the five prompts given me and I learned that I love writing in prose and visual caesurae so I chose to work with my visual caesurae poem and to make it perfect.

To fix this poem I clarified who the speaker was and to whom she was talking and I took out a few unnecessary phrases. I also made her memory more clearly a memory and added some concrete images because I still struggle with those.

First Draft
My grandmother on my mother’s side lives with me and my intermediate family. She is a tad on the older side and suffers from memory loss. She can only remember things that happened in the past and very often forgets what day of the week it is. She can remember some things if she writes them down but it is still hard for her. The prompt for this poem was to write a visual caesurae poem about a protagonist who is suddenly in dire mental trouble. I know that she tries and that it hurts her when she can’t remember so I wrote this poem to try to gain perspective on how she feels.
