The Life of a Salesman
For this assignment we did not have to turn in a rough draft and we also did not do any peer reviews, so this final copy is everything that was due for me. For my reader response essay this year I chose to do a creative writing take on “Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller. I really liked reading and studying this play because it was one of the few plays that I have ever studied and I thought it was really interesting. When I write spoofs on stories or alternate endings or extra chapters or sequels I always like to find a way of throwing a surprise into to end or throughout the story, it is my way of keeping my readers interested and on their toes. I know that this is not the most important thing but my teacher, the teacher of this class, said that she really loved this paper, and that meant the world to me. I had a lot of fun writing and I think that that can be seen through my work in this paper.
Final DraftLike I said I did a creative writing take on “Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller and again I was super excited to have the opportunity to write creatively again this year because that’s what I do best! So when I sat down to write this paper I thought to myself, “Well there is not much else that I could write about the family. I guess I could write about after his death, but I feel like that is very typical and not very exciting.” So I decided to pick who I thought was actually one of the most important if not the most important character in the entire play, Dave Singleman. He was the salesman who lived the true life of a salesman and who died the death of a salesman and I decided that he deserved a little story. So I gave him a wife, and a daughter. I also added another twist at the end which was Dave’s funeral, I had his daughter meet Willy Loman, which hinted that she was The Woman that he has an affair with. I also capitalized Salesman every time Dave said it to symbolize how important his work and his job was to him. I love love loved writing this piece. It was so much fun giving this small, or to me big, character a background story. I think that this is one of my best creative writing pieces that I have ever written so I hope you enjoy this.

I really liked this photo, even though it is not all that interesting I think that it is powerful. It shows a man going to work brought down by the weight of bringing his family happiness that he is struggling to find sitting on his shoulders. I know it is very simple but I really really liked it.
